Slipway Closed - No Sailing
As you may know, ongoing erosion issues have been increasingly impacting Shoreham Sailing Club over recent months. Our Commodore, Tyler, has been working tirelessly with the Port, the Environment Agency, and other involved parties to find a resolution. Please keep reading to find out how this resolution will impact you.
Firstly, the Environment Agency will be rebuilding the area that has washed away in front of the flood wall. This work will commence on January 6th, 2025, and is due to finish on March 21st, 2025. These works will be carried out from outside the club grounds, so we anticipate minimal impact on club members. We will communicate with you again before these works start.
Secondly, remedial works to repair the slipway will take place between Monday, November 11th, and Saturday, November 24th, during which time both the boat park and the slipway will be inaccessible. We are hopeful that work will be completed on time on Saturday, November 24th (weather-dependent), at which point the boat park will become accessible again. However, the slipway will remain out of action for an additional seven days while the works settle.
During this time, pedestrian access to the club will be available through the smaller gate next to the vehicle gate. However, members will not be able to freely move boats around the dinghy pen or use the slipway to launch. Unfortunately, this does mean that our Cooler series will be ending earlier than usual, so if you wish to sail elsewhere during the period of work, then you will need to remove your boat by Sunday, November 10th.
If you have any questions or concerns, please bring them to the AGM on Sunday or contact Tyler.
We're confident that these works are necessary, and will help us to enjoy an even better sailing season in 2025.
We appreciate your patience,
The SSC Committee
